Using a broad-edged pen and ink, learn to create graceful and elegant letters in Italic. Beginners receive an overview of lower case and basic, upper case letters. Continuing students will engage in independent study. All abilities welcome.

Bring all materials to the first class.
- 3.8 mm Pilot Parallel Pen (comes in other sizes, but this is the size we will use in class. Sold separately or in sets)
- At least 1 Parallel pen refills pkg. of 6 or 12, black or assorted colored ink. The pen comes with 2 ink cartridges, a red and a black. The ink in this pen is very “juicy” and you may use up the 2 cartridges before the first or second class is over.
- The Parallel pen can be used by both right and left-handers, and can be found at:
- 12 inch Ruler or 12 inch, plastic T-square (you do not need a 2 foot wooden or architect’s T-square)
- 1 pad, Quad- ruled graph paper (The kind used in math classes. The graph paper should not have slanted lines on it. Or be made from recycled paper/fibers)
- 1 pad, 9” x 12”, Charcoal paper
- 1 pad, 9” x 12”, Bristol paper, either vellum or smooth finish
- Paper pads can be found at CC Lowell, Michael’s, or online. Brands you may find are Strathmore or Canson)
- Pencil, good ol’ #2 or a mechanical pencil, if you prefer.
- Eraser (white plastic, kneadable, gum, any eraser except pink eraser used in school or on a #2 pencil as it may leave pink marks on paper)

Note to Continuing Students: You may use a Pilot Parallel Pen in your choice of size, or a dip pen and ink set up. Bring your usual supplies.
