Learn the materials, techniques, and concepts of oil painting. Preparation, color mixing, oil paint media, safety, concept development, and technique will be covered, with an emphasis on retaining personal expression. Through demonstrations, examples, and one-on-one guidance, students will leave with a better understanding of oil painting and how to implement color theory to facilitate self-expression.

Student Supply List
Required Materials:
- Gamsol (no less than 4 oz, from personal experience I find the 16 oz to be
more than enough for 8 weeks
- 2 to 4 small glass jars (I like recycling jelly or sauce containers) Galkyd (no
more than 8 oz is needed)
- palette knife,
- palette/mixing surface (I personally prefer to use glass or metal like a
plate or a tray over the plastic palettes).
- Artist Loft White Synthetic Flat and Round Brush Set,
- Royal & Langnickel Essentials Filbert 5 Piece Brush Set,
- 1 Filbert (flat oval) Natural bristle brush (Blick has a brand called Mega that works great),
- Princeton bristle 3-piece brush set.
- Pack of large chip brushes.
- Any brand oil paints in the following colors (NOT water soluble):Colors with an * indicate that I am suggesting purchasing a bigger size than 1.25 fl oz but it is not required.

*Cadmium Yellow

Quinacridone Red (Sometimes called Rose Madder or Magenta)

- Any color not listed that you want to experiment with,
- shop towels/rags.
- Carrying case/box,
- gesso and canvas if you’re interested in building your own canvas later in the course.
