In this course you will learn how to draw from the portrait model. Initial emphasis will be on head placement and attitude rather than on exact likeness. Creation of individual character will be developed through the study of physiognomy and facial anatomy.

5B or Ebony pencil

Soft charcoal pencil

Medium vine charcoal (package of 3 sticks)

White Vinyl Eraser

Kneaded eraser

18" x 24" white drawing paper

Pencil sharpener or knife

Clips

Conté crayon (2B white, sanguine, bistre, black) OR Pastels in browns, black, white

Small Rembrandt pastel set (if desired)

#8 or #10 round watercolor brush (synthetic is fine)

Black ink (such as Sumi student grade)

Felt tip, ball point pens

Palette (for ink washes)

Drawing board or piece of Masonite cut slightly larger than pad

Workable fixative (Krylon) (NOT TO BE USED IN CLASS)
