Learn various modes of observation, expression, and representation of the figure while receiving an introduction to the human figure, gesture, and its structure.  With a focus on understanding anatomy, the instructor will guide you through learning formal techniques while leaving room for you to feel comfortable to experiment with new and creative ways to depict the human figure. Viewing art from the Museum's collection and the special exhibition, Twentieth Century Nudes from Tate, will provide inspiration, while in the studio, students will work from an artist's model. Model fee included.

Student Supply List

• Newsprint paper pad (no smaller than 11”x14”), Drawing paper pad (no smaller than
  11”x14”, make sure it says DRAWING not sketch)
•  Artist Loft Sketching and drawing pencil set (Can be any brand but this one has a kneaded eraser, sharpener, and blenders.) If you wish to purchase each pencil individually you will need an HB, B, 2H, H, 2B, and 8 B pencil.
• Vine Charcoal (medium or thick preferred)
• At least 4 stretched canvases (no smaller than 8”x12”)
• Canson XL Mixed Media pad (no smaller than 12”x9”)
• Faber-castle soft pastel beginner's set AND/OR assorted colored pencils (Prismacolor works great)
• Acrylic paint, watercolor AND OR oil paint set that at least includes: yellow, red, ultramarine blue, green, black, and white. 
  At least one HB or 2H pencil and eraser
• Palette/mixing surface (I personally prefer to use glass or metal like a plate or a tray over the plastic palettes)
• Artist Loft White Synthetic Flat and Round Brush Set
• Royal & Langnickel Essentials Filbert 5 Piece Brush Set
• 1 Filbert (flat oval) Natural bristle brush (Blick has a brand called Mega that works great)
• Princeton bristle 3-piece brush set
• Pack of chip brushes
  
  
• Nice to Have: Compressed Charcoal, Color Pencils, Pastels, personal sketchbook of any size, pencil sharpener or x-acto knife, and some sort of box or carrying case. Instructor will have SOME materials available to be borrowed during class time :)
