Acquire tips and tricks for painting in your choice of acrylics or oils. Through still life and landscapes, students will learn palette use, color mixing, brush techniques, color theory, composition, value, and chroma. Open to new and continuing students.

Student Supplies
Painting Supplies:
Acrylic Painting:
1.5” – 2” house painting brushes &/or sponge brushes, (the made in China brushes at the hardware store are fine), metal palette knife, Satin Acrylic Medium, rags or store bought paper towels, 18”x24” paper palette or roll of Freezer paper (purchase at a grocery store), (not wax paper), plastic wrap, bucket of water, tuna cans for medium, painting surface: 16”x20” at least, spray bottle, masking tape, variety of brushes, no small brushes, #10 and up. Buy a round, flat and filbert for variety, (make sure they are acrylic brushes, synthetic brushes with long handles), ivory soap, paper cups and plastic spoons.
Oil Painting:
Bring #10 size brushes & larger, (filbert brushes are great but feel free to get some round and flat brushes), no small brushes, 1-3” house painting brushes, 18”x24” paper palette or freezer paper, Murphy’s Oil soap (purchase at grocery store), rags &/or paper towels, metal palette knife, masking tape, plastic wrap, newspaper, metal paint cups, same painting surfaces as above. The oil painting medium, one of each in a small bottle: 1) Artist’s professional grade Walnut Alkyd Medium and Walnut Oil. No premixed oil mediums. 2 glass jars with metal tops, NO SOLVENTS or citrus products to be used in class, Safflower Oil, (this is a compatible for oil paint), it is used for cleaning brushes in between colors. Safflower Oil is not to be mixed into the paint as a medium. Water based oils are fine.
Required colors: Cadmium Red Medium or Vermilion, (as a less expensive alternative), Camium Yellow Medium, Ultramarine Blue, large tube of Titanium White,
Other colors you might consider: Alizarin Crimson or Rose madder or Quinacridone Magenta, Cadmium Yellow Light or Cadmium Lemon yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cerulean Blue or Maganese or Cobalt Blue
PLEASE NOTE FOR ALL OIL PAINTERS:
-Do not pour any oils down the sink.
-All Oil painters liquid waste goes home with you. Bring in glass jar!!!! – All oil waste in rages go into red bucket with top, close the top.

REGARDING ONLINE CLASSES:Students should familiarize themselves with Zoom software prior to the beginning of the first class session. Instructions will be sent on how to create a free Zoom account and how to sign in to the secure Zoom classroom the business day before class begins. Teens are welcome in Online Adult Classes if they are comfortable with the medium. This class will need to meet a minimum enrollment of 5 students to run. The class maximum will be 10 students.
