The visual arts and performance have been linked for millennia, In this class you will explore the art of performance! Each week, we will talk about diverse modes of theater and performance, including ancient Greek theater festivals, medieval morality plays, breakdancing, and the contemporary work of 
Brazilian theater group Maskara. We will supplement our learning with commentary from prominent performance theorists. As the course progresses, students will design their own performances (e.g. a dance, a short play, or poem) for presentation in class.
