With the expert guidance of your instructor, paint outdoors at local sites using watercolor and gouache for a wide range of potential: from spontaneity to measured control. Learn to quickly lay down the essentials on the spot using these two excellent mediums.

5/8 - Introduction to the qualities of watercolor and gouache in relation to painting outdoors in portable fashion. Examples. Handouts. Discussion of supplies needed. Visit to paint at Institute Park.
5/15 - Visit/Paint at Institute Park.
5/22 - Visit/Paint at Green Hill Park.
5/29 - Visit/Paint at Downtown Worcester (front and back of City Hall)
6/5 - Visit/Paint at Elm Park.
6/12 - Visit/Paint outside of WAM.
 
*** all the above sites are subject to weather conditions permitting. On rainy days, we may work in the Education Wing or studio, looking out of windows or from previous studies. Throughout the course, we will gather together to view and discuss each other's works.
 
Supplies - Students will need to bring their own materials. We will review in the first class and as needed. 
 
Watercolor brushes (no. 12 round, 1 inch flat, 1/2 inch flat, small pointed brush) with portable carrying case
Watercolors - a basic set including ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, cobalt or prussian blue, alizarin crimson or rose madder, red light, yellow light, yellow ochre, additional colors as desired)
Watercolor palette (with enough mixing space)
Gouache paints - a basic set similar to the above watercolor set (Winsor Newton) 
Watercolor Paper - 140 lb. cold press pad or block or book ( 9x12 or larger)
Paper Towels, Water Containers with lids/covers, Sketch Pad, Pencil(s), Kneaded Eraser
Hat, Long Pants, Sturdy and Comfortable Footwear, Insect Repellant, Portable Chair
