This workshop is a hands-on introduction to creating Cyanotypes, a photographic printing process that produces cobalt-blue prints. We will cover the classic cyanotype process, both its historical and technical aspects. Working with an artificial UV light source and experimenting with different exposure times, we will explore the use of different materials to create images: botanicals, reflective and semi-opaque objects, photographic negatives, etc. We will also discuss toning and staining techniques. This class is fluid and flexible with no previous experience required.

Student Supplies

Unless otherwise notified, please bring a sketchbook, pencil, eraser, and any other supplies you may want to bring to the first class. Your instructor will review supplies.

PLEASE NOTE: All individuals entering the Museum are required to wear a face mask.

Construction work will be occurring in the Higgins Education Wing as the windows and skylights in the wing are being replaced. If there will be any effect on your class, such as a change in studio, we will let you know ASAP.
